This is the start of Urban Plastics at Learnlife. Working through the Precious Plastic course, we have been learning about thermoset and thermoplastic products, their impact, and how plastic can be reused as a material.
To begin, we ironed recycled plastics together with a sandwich press into a sheet we could cut and sew into a wallet, getting a feel for the process and the material. From there we started designing products on the sewing machine and overlocker, finished with velcro or upcycled elastic.
We are also building a Precious Plastic shredder with Mikel from Fablab, so we can process our own waste.
