Crime reduction initiative

Crime reduction initiative

Crime Reduction Initiatives was a UK charity supporting people affected by substance misuse and related issues. From 2010 to 2014 I ran a weekly photography group, meeting offenders to take a storytelling journey around the streets of London.

Over twelve committed participants built the work into a large-scale montage, later shown as part of an Amy Winehouse Foundation event. One person told me, "you've given me a new set of eyes - I've walked these same streets in Camden my whole life and now with a camera it's like everything is new."

For me the project was about rebuilding creativity, self-confidence and community, and above all about people being seen and heard.
